ScribbleVet's Environmental Offset Commitment
Today, we're announcing that ScribbleVet will offset 100% of the water and carbon footprint from our AI-powered scribing service, at no cost to our customers.
We believe in the power of AI to give veterinary professionals more time for what matters most. But we also know that being thoughtful about technology means considering its footprint on our planet.
We've listened to our team and our users, who share a deep care for our planet. That's why we're taking responsibility for the environmental impact of every query generated by ScribbleVet's AI scribe.
Our commitment:
Starting immediately, we will offset 100% of the water use and carbon emissions tied to our service at no cost to our customers.
Offset methodology:
As a small company we're opting for a simple but actionable calculation method for our offsets.
- Measurement: We calculate the water and CO2 footprint of our AI queries using methodology and data from Google's latest AI impact study.
- Responsible Scaling: Apply a 50x scaling factor to our initial calculations. This is to help account for the upstream costs of AI (e.g. LLM model training), our use of larger, more powerful models, and the more lengthy and complex queries needed for veterinary medical notes.
- Action: Each quarter, we will calculate our total footprint, apply our scaling factor, and donate to organization(s) that directly work to offset that impact.
Our donations will be sent to The Rainforest Trust’s Climate Action Fund.
This fund protects endangered tropical forests, which store carbon, stabilize global climate patterns, and filter freshwater systems. The Rainforest Trust holds a perfect 100/100 score on Charity Navigator, with 100% of donations funding conservation—ensuring our offset contributions are transparently deployed and independently verified.
Moving forward
This initiative runs through October 7, 2026, when we'll reassess based on the latest research and technology improvements.
We know offsetting is not a perfect solution and does not address all the concerns veterinary professionals may have with AI. However, we are committed to take this first, tangible step while the industry works towards a more sustainable AI infrastructure.
